PROJECT OF THE WEEK
People are often surprised when I tell them that, despite all the amazing technology we have today, I'm still a big fan of using a paper planner. I've coached many students over the years, and while we've experimented with countless planning apps, most eventually come back to paper. Why? Because it's simple, quick to maintain, and always right in front of you.
My advice is to keep your planner with your laptop so you always have it when you're studying or heading to class.
Getting started
At the beginning of each week, write down all of your due dates. Then comes the important part: decide exactly what you're going to do each day.
Instead of writing "Study Biology," write "Create a study guide for Chapters 1–3." Instead of "Read History," write "Read pages 25–50." The more specific your plan, the easier it is to get started.
If you have a big assignment or a weekly math or engineering problem set, don't wait until the night before. Plan to start early, schedule a visit to office hours if you have questions, and then set aside time to finish the assignment after you've gotten the help you need.
A planner isn't just a place to record due dates. It's a tool for creating a realistic plan that breaks big projects into manageable steps. That's one of the best ways I know to reduce procrastination and replace overwhelm with confidence.
This Week's Happy Spaces Challenge: Choose one planning day this week. Write down your due dates, then break every assignment into small, specific tasks. Your planner should tell you exactly what to do each day and not leave you guessing.
My Favorite Academic Planner
My favorite academic planner gives students an easy way to SEE time so they can learn to MANAGE it.

A Note from Happy Spaces
Our goal is simple: to add value to your life. If you think this project will be helpful, here are some steps to set yourself up for success:
Estimate how long it will take—then double it. Giving yourself extra time helps reduce stress.
Schedule it on your calendar for the week ahead. Setting a specific date increases follow-through.
Break it up if it will take more than an hour. Tackling it in smaller steps makes it more manageable.
Make a list of every action needed before you start. A clear plan helps keep you on track.
Do what works for you—you don’t have to complete every part, just what adds value to your life.
Find an Accountability Partner—having support makes it easier to stay committed.
We understand that building new habits and systems can be challenging, but you don’t have to do it alone. For additional support, visit HappySpacesBySarah.com and let’s make organizing and planning easier together.
Creating a life you don't need a vacation from! ®
Sincerely,
Sarah Weingarten
Meet Sarah
As the oldest of nine kids with two working parents, I grew up juggling many responsibilities at home. Organization and time management became my lifeline amidst the chaos.
I attended the Cornell Hotel School and pursued my childhood dream of working in the hospitality industry. In 2016, I launched Happy Spaces, combining my passion for structure and efficiency with helping others.
I love working with students to develop essential organizational, time management, and study skills. These skills empower them to reach their full potential, build confidence, and create a future they feel good about.
